A connected place to listen to and cherish
The origin of our name
A new project requires a new name, capable of identifying its values and representing it in the best possible way. When it was necessary to choose the name to be given to the nascent winery in San Gimignano, the desire was only one: to transmit the close bond of its producers with the precious territory surrounding the ancient village.
Ours was a new, young business, with no inheritance but with a desire to try the fruits and the possibilities that the land of that region offered us. Since wine is not produced within the city walls but in its beautiful hills, the environment from which to draw to find the right name was that of the countryside, soil and climate.
From an analysis of the soil of the first vineyard on which the vines of our Vernaccia grow, it emerged that after a medium-clayey Pliocene layer there was a slab of cavernous limestone. This conformation was exactly what we were looking for. This element in fact is capable of giving the wine concentration and mineral notes, making Vernaccia a full expression of its territory. What better name then if not La Lastra (the slab), that is the tangible proof of the fact that a good wine is born first of all in the vineyard.
The logo is linked to the same passion: it recalls an ancient alchemical symbol found in a book from the 1700s in the Siena library and represents the soul of wine. So here is the origin of La Lastra - The Spirit of Wine.
