Entropy of agroecosystem
In the past, the habitat sharing between cultivated and weed plants was considered as a reduction of resources for the vine or as a greater probability of damage caused by insects or parasites carried by the weed, with the reduction of the grapes quantity. This approach has therefore mainly driven the interest of researchers towards the definition and creation of weed control techniques, through the use of mechanical, physical and chemical means.
Today the knowledge that has gradually been established and a greater sensitivity towards a systemic vision of the problem (Concetta Vazzana - University of Florence), have made it possible to enhance the positive role that weeds play within the vineyard ecosystem: support effect on populations of useful predatory insects and a significant lowering of the risk of damage from attacks by plant pests and diseases.
The entropy of the agroecosystem once again plays a fundamental role for the environment and for the quality of the grapes!
